The Company

Albany Associates has a strong track record in planning and delivering communications and public diplomacy strategies; consulting on media and regulatory frameworks; advising on media infrastructure development including assisting the development of public service broadcasting and providing professional training and institutional capacity building.
We specialise in working in conflict-affected countries, delivering rapid, sophisticated and effective strategic communications strategies and plans to a varied worldwide client base including UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) and Stabilisation Unit, US State Department, US Department of Defence, United Nations, UNESCO, UNDP and broadcast and media regulatory bodies and media institutions around the world.
Currently, Albany is working in some of the world’s most challenging environments in countries including Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan and Lebanon. We’ve also worked on communications, training and capacity building assignments in Sierra Leone, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Rwanda, Jordan, UAE, UK and the USA
We are now looking to expand our team with an experienced communications professional.

The Role

Working within an innovative and dynamic strategic communications environment, based in our London office, and reporting to and assisting the Albany Director leading on Strategic Communications, it will be your role to support the development and implementation of Albany’s strategic communications delivery to our clients around the world and where appropriate execute those strategies.

Operating at both a strategic and tactical level - often dealing with sensitive political, cultural and religious issues - you will analyse, research and provide substantive advice on communications strategies and plans. With a strong emphasis on delivering innovative and effective strategic communications to a range of clients in countries emerging from violent conflict, you will be responsible for communications planning as well as managing relationships with clients and beneficiaries. You will also oversee ongoing communications projects.

Key Accountabilities

• Analysing, researching and preparing comprehensive communications strategies and plans
• Examine potential for new business as guided and directed by Company directors.
• Establishing and maintaining good contacts within the media diplomatic, civil service and political communities in order to leverage new business and understand the prevailing strategic communications environment.
• Drafting proposals.
• Liaising with clients and potential clients abroad to under stand and advise on communications needs.
• Managing projects from UK or in-country as appropriate.
• Writing for key publications, blogs and the company website on communications issues.
• Managing, as appropriate, Strategic Communications projects.

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of planning and delivering strategic communications strategies and plans.

• Experience of working in more than one country emerging from violent conflict.
• Excellent writing and presentation skills.

Qualifications/experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field of study or equivalent.
• Progressive, broad-based communications experience in a global setting, and preferably some years spent working in conflict-affected countries.
